Subway
Yesterday, my kids and I were running some errands. We had a long wait at one point in the car so I gave Tiana a piece of paper and a pen to draw during the wait. The boys were happy just being crazy lol.
5 minutes later Tiana shows me what she's been writing. She had copied the letters from a Subway sign. The sign said, COME BREAK BREAD WITH US THIS SUNDAY.
I laughed so hard. I had no clue where she got that from so I asked and she pointed to the Subway sign. She's a hoot! I explained that it was a sandwich place so they want people to come and eat sandwiches at their restaurant on Sundays.
Context for the next part... We have taught our children that God has commanded us to keep the Sabbath day holy. This is different for every family, but for us that means we don't go places on Sundays.
So Tiana asks, "Wait, they're open on Sundays?!"
I respond, "Yes. Remember, not everyone knows the commandments and some people know the commandments but they don't keep them. We all have a choice."
This is our honest response every time our kids see people doing things we teach them not to do. I think it's the most honest answer I could give them, so hopefully this doesn't offend anyone...
Anyway, it's the next part that made me want to share this.
Tiana agrees.
Another minute later and Tiana says, "But just because we know the commandments doesn't make us better than anyone else."
Amen!!
Just because we choose to act according to a set of commandments or rules or values that we think are important, doesn't mean that those who don't are any less valued or loved by God.
By the mouth of babes...
She's a treasure and I'm grateful for the lessons all my kids teach me!
Book of Mormon
16 Behold, it came to pass on the morrow that the multitude gathered themselves together, and they both saw and heard these children; yea, even babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things;
